One of the easiest ways to add a splash of the color scheme of and holiday or party is to make a quick and easy scrap fabric garland in your chosen colors. They are super easy to make and you can keep them an re-use them the next year.
This year I decided to make a few strands of fabric bunting for July 4th. I had some old t-shirts laying around and decided to cut up an old dress as well. I love that this project was totally free this time!
I decided to hang this one over my front door to add a little pop of color to my porch for the 4th of July, but you could hang this on your mantle, over a window or on the front of a buffet….anywhere you want to jazz up a little bit! Watch out though…these little garlands can get addicting to make, especially if you have extra fabric hanging around like I do! Here’s a tip: Keep your eyes peeled at local thrift shops and the Goodwill for extra cheap fabric! If you know your party/room decor colors, you can pick this up over time and you can save so much cash by doing it this way!
Materials needed:
your choice of fabric (I used old t-shirts, a dress and some fabric I had lying around)
your choice of twine or cording – I had some dollar store twine left over from another project)
Scissors
What to do:
Cut your fabric of choice into 2 x 14 inch lengths ( or however thick you want them!)
String up your twine or cording between 2 chairs- I find that this makes it so much easier to loop the fabric.
Fold Fabric strip in have length-wise and create a slip not over the twine.
Create a pattern with your fabric or mix it up.
Keep going to your desired length.
Hang up your work of art!!
